The Ministry of Education (M of Ed), Children’s Services Division, licenses St. Thomas the Apostle Nursery School under the authority of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014. A Program Supervisor from the M of Ed, a Fire Inspector, playground inspector and a Health Inspector from the Regional Health Unit facilitate inspections annually.
The Child Care and Early Years Act establishes minimum standards including physical space, staff qualifications, child to staff ratio, health and safety, nutrition, and basic programming. For instance, all staff members are certified in CPR and First Aid. Further, programs are required to develop a comprehensive playground policy that outlines the procedures that will maintain a safe outdoor play area. St. Thomas the Apostle Nursery School’s playground policy adheres to the required standards that ensure the outdoor play area is clean and safe at all times.
Our nursery school is licensed to enroll 32 children ages 2.5 – 5 years per session for the preschool programs. In addition, we are licensed to care for 15 toddler children aged 18 – 30 months.
St. Thomas the Apostle Nursery School is a licensed provider of childcare services, and as such, the fees are an eligible tax credit. Receipts are provided annually in March as requested by parent.
